Welsh rugby is set to light up the skies when Wales face Samoa in the upcoming Dove Men Series game at the Millennium Stadium on Friday 16 November (7.30pm).

A new international standard floodlight system has been installed at the home of Welsh sport which will be switched on at full capacity for the very first time when Wales face the South Sea Islanders.

The floodlights are guaranteed to shine brighter than ever before, producing a maximum of 3000lux across 100 extra lights, and rugby fans under the closed roof at the Friday evening fixture against Samoa will be the first crowd to appreciate the impressive luminous system.

Boosting lighting efficiency by up to 78% while reducing the cost of power consumption, the eco-friendly system will also allow Wales’ kickers to perfect their moves on hallowed home turf for the eve of the second consecutive Dove Men Series game.

Wales skills coach Neil Jenkins said: “The day before any international encounter can be extremely tense and it’s so important that the boys are well-prepared. We always hold a kicking session at the Millennium Stadium on the eve of a home international and I know the lads will be keen to check out the new floodlights in readiness for the 7.30pm kick off the following day.”

The top-of-the-range lighting system will ensure that world-class sport and entertainment can take place after dark at the venue which already boasts an industry-wide reputation for delivering events whatever the weather thanks to its retractable roof and removable pitch.

Jenkins added: “The current national squad has benefitted from major improvements in facilities over the past few years and we’re always grateful to the WRU for leading with the confidence, determination and vision it takes to succeed both on and off the pitch.”

For Wales’ Friday evening fixture against Samoa, fans can still get tickets priced at £10 for Under 16s and £25 for adults from wru.co.uk, your local rugby club, selected Tesco stores and the new WRU Shop at the St David’s Dewi Saint, Cardiff.
