Welsh rockers Lostprophets will take centre stage in Cardiff this summer – performing to a packed Millennium Stadium ahead of Wales v South Africa on Saturday, 5 June.

The rock sextet, formed in Pontypridd in 1997, will add their voices to the thousands of fans in support of Warren Gatland’s Wales at the 74,500 capacity national stadium when they take on the World Champions in the Principality Building Society Summer Test.

The band’s guitarist, and huge rugby fan, Mike Lewis said: "We’re very honoured to be asked by the WRU and the Welsh team to play before the South Africa match. I grew up playing and watching rugby and it means the world to be the first band to be invited to play before an international match at the Millennium Stadium.

"I was at the Stadium the last time Wales played South Africa and we came so close to beating them hopefully this time we can do it. We’ll do our best to get the crowd fired up before the boys come out and do the business!"

The band are set to perform three songs ahead of Wales’ sizzling summer clash with the Springboks and have promised to include one song in particular, from their fourth album ‘The Betrayed’ which entered the UK album charts at No. 3 in January.

"’Where We Belong’ seems to have become a favourite at games recently. Wales was definitely in our hearts’ and minds’ when we wrote that song so for it to have been embraced by the national team is a great honour," Mike said.

WRU head of sales and marketing Craig Maxwell is looking forward to rewarding the loyal rugby fans who have supported their nation this season with a day out to remember, thanks to the earlier kick-off time of 2.30pm.

"We want to create a fantastic carnival atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium to thank all the fans who have turned up in their droves throughout the season in all weathers and at varying kick-off times," said Craig.

"A traditional Saturday afternoon kick-off allows us to do something a little different and I’m confident that we will put on a great show for fans at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, 5 June."
