The Millennium Stadium has launched a new initiative to promote sustainable tourism after a record number of visitors signed up for the official guided tours at the home of Welsh sport.

Almost 60,000 tourists travelled to Cardiff for the exclusive behind-the-scenes tour last year and Wales’ national rugby stadium has joined forces with Stagecoach in South Wales to reward all future visitors travelling by bus.

All Stagecoach bus-users will receive a 15% discount on the official tour on production of a valid Rider or Same-Day Stagecoach bus ticket issued on any of its services to Cardiff from within South Wales.

The scheme aims to reduce the carbon footprint of individuals and smaller groups travelling to the Millennium Stadium by encouraging the use of public transport.

Concessions are already available for organised groups travelling in private-hire buses to the venue, which achieved the British Standard of Sustainability ahead of any other UK stadia.

Stadium Manager Gerry Toms said: “We’re delighted to work with Stagecoach in South Wales to reward visitors using local public transport with a 15% discount on the official guided tour of the Millennium Stadium.

“Sustainable development is an important part of our operations and with visitor numbers at an all-time high we are pleased to join forces with local businesses to encourage the use of public transport.”

John Gould, Managing Director, Stagecoach in South Wales said: “This is a really exciting partnership which will help visitors to the Millennium Stadium reduce their Carbon Footprint.  Our message to Stadium visitors is simple – leave your car at home and “just go” by Stagecoach instead!”

Millennium Stadium Tours start at the WRU Store on Westgate St. (situated between Gates 3 & 4) and are available on the hour Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm and on Sundays and Bank Holidays between 10am and 4pm.
